BEYUL HALO
Baby Yak / Baby Alpaca / Fine Merino / Silk
50 g = approx. 400 m/ 437 yds
lace weight
Colourway: ooak (one of a kind) teal - aqua with yellow, red and blue speckles. #beyulhaloyarn
This unbelievably soft lace is a perfect solution for people who can’t use Mohair, or just as a fun alternative to kid/silk.
Fluffy and pillowy, this the yarn feels like high quality Cashmere without the ethical implications - see below for details!
Please note: due to the Alpaca fibre please make sure to pull the fibres apart before winding the skein to aid separation of the strands, as they will be quite sticky. The Yak's loose halo-like fluff is what gives this yarn it's unique softness, and some of this will work loose in winding due to the short fibre length.
This is perfectly normal and to be expected.
--- A single Yak produces a mere 100g of down a year - one average skein of fingering weight yarn - making it a rare and precious fibre! ---
This super soft heathered yarn combines the best of 4 fibres – the gentle halo of high quality Yak down, the amazing insulating properties of Alpaca, a subtle shimmer from silk, and a bit of bouncy goodness from the softest superwash Merino.
Please note that the colour settings on your monitor may not display hues accurately and that as a hand-dyed product the colour intensity can very from skein to skein. Please email me directly before purchasing if you have any colour concerns. Thanks!

Did you know that Cashmere production is creating huge environmental problems in Asia which are in turn negatively affecting the global climate? Read an article on this problem. My Beyul is my response to this problem - a yarn with many of the same luxurious properties as Cashmere but none of the nasty consequences. In huge contrast to Cashmere goats, Yaks have a minimal impact on sparse grassland and every single facet of the yak is used for survival making them and their fleece extremely environmental. All of the Merino I use is sourced from Peru from ethical farms that don't use mulesing on their sheep. Hand-combed or plucked, this short fibre sits between the most luxurious fine Cashmere and softest baby Camel in micron thickness and has a similar butter-soft handle and gloriously gentle halo… however - it has the added benefit of pilling less than either fibre. Yak is durable, breathable, lightweight and its incredible thermal properties keeps you cool in summer and warm in winter. |
