A little over a year ago I released my first garment pattern Brynja in Pom Pom Quarterly’s lovely Issue 11: Winter 2014.

A quick knit in Waltham Aran – soft 100% British Bluefaced Leicester yarn – this thick, squishy cardi has become a year-round staple in my wardrobe and I wear it as a light coat most days when I am running to the post office.
While this cardi might look advanced, it is actually quite a simple knit. Knit seamlessly from bottom upwards the button bands and pockets are knit as you go, which means a minimum of finishing when you are done…a must for lazy knitters like me. The thick, juicy cables are simple twisted knit cables which don’t require a cable needle and are quick to knit.
Slightly extended ribbing on the sleeves keeps your hands warm and stops cold air from sneaking up your wrists, and deep pockets are perfect for shoving chilled fingers into or storing your wallet/phone. The sleeves are knit from the bottom up – and can be worked two at a time if you are familiar with this technique – then joined at the armpit and the raglan yoke worked upwards.
